Supporting Reproductive Healthcare
Thanks to everyone who contributed to preserve access in Cuyahoga County
On Saturday March 8 from 6pm to midnight, we hosted a fundraiser to support the services provided by the Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio. From donations that night and weeks prior, we raised and donated over $1300 that will stay within Cuyahoga County! Thank you to those who attended and contributed to the success of this event—at a time when everything and everyone is under attack, it’s important that we support our communities and resist apathy and doubt. Let’s talk about it.
Ohio is a state of contradictions. With every attack against progressive policies, a glimpse into a progressive future is sure to follow. This is certainly the case with access to reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare. In 2023, average, everyday Ohioans like you and me voted to enshrine access to abortion as a constitutional right, while the General Assembly passed anti-trans legislation in 2024 and 2025.
Progress is slow, but no one said a movement had to be fast.
Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio provides reproductive and gender-affirming care, contraception, and sex education to Ohioans throughout the state. From 2022 to 2023, 85% of their patients were women with 49% identifying as non-white and 56% living at or below 200% of the federal poverty line. In 2024 in Cuyahoga County, 53% of patients were non-white, and 40% were insured by Medicaid.
These essential services come alongside 3,621 volunteer hours fighting to defend reproductive healthcare for Ohioans, nearly half a million dollars to support out-of-state abortions, and reaching 99,800 Ohioans with trusted, facts-based sex education. PPGO’s work is foundational to our reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare rights, especially while they are under attack by the bigots in Columbus.
Over 20 people came out to Becky’s in support of PPGO, and many more donated without attending the fundraiser. At the event, we distributed Know Your Rights cards from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center and the executive summary of our Cuyahoga Justice Reform Framework. We were also honored by having representatives from PPGO come out in support of the event and to answer any questions from those in attendance.
Without exception, this fundraiser was a success because of the generosity, ambition, and persistent drive of everyone who offered their support to realizing a progressive future for all Ohioans. It’s easy to let the current situation sew the seeds of despair, but community and mutual support will weather the storm and drive change.
Thank you for your support! Our work is never over, and we’ll keep fighting another day—we hope you’ll join us again!
